You would not know this is a restaurant. No sign at all. Uber driver wasn't sure and we circled the block a few times. It's basically dining on first floor of a house in a neighborhood. Try the chicken in juice. Sounds simple but it was one of the best bites I had in NOLA
Very disappointed. The bread and butter was the the best thing. Fois Gras, shrimp, soup: ALL overly salted. My scallops tasted like metal and were bitter. I couldn’t even finish it. I WILL say the hostess was very kind. Seriously, I feel like I need a Big Mac combo to cleanse my palette right now and you KNOW how salty that is.Will not be back.
We had a wonderful experience. The dining room is a bit loud but it didn't hinder our evening. I see a lot of reviews saying this place is for boomers. Well Friday night at 8pm there were quite a few tables with 30 somethings there having a great time. My only negative was the gentleman walking around visiting tables, not sure if he's owner or manager, but he kept putting his hand on my shoulder while he was chatting with us at our table. I'm from Nola so I'm used to the warm friendlies but please don't touch me if you don't know me. Overall we had a great meal and lovely night.
We were in New Orleans for a week and this was the BEST meal we had on vacation. The Chef’s specials were so tempting, we wanted to order them all. The menu had so many options as well. It does get busy so I would recommend an earlier reservation versus a late one. Also, take an Uber, parking in the local neighborhood can be challenging. This is a must visit place!! When we go back, this will be the first place we eat.
I took my friend here for her birthday and unfortunately this is the first time I've had to give 1 star to a restaurant and here was our experience:
Service:
We had one lady that asked my friend if she wanted bottled water or regular water and my friend said bottle water. She was rude and raised her voice at my friend (the birthday girl)...already a bad start. It also took the waiter a really long time to hand over our menus and took almost 40 mins for us to get our food.
Food:
I would say the food was overall very dissapointing. We ordered the duck breast dish and there was barely any duck meat with some vegetables in it...almost like something I could cook at home! It tasted very mideocre.
Luckily the dessert made up for it. I ordered a chocolate lava cake which was rich and flavorful.
Atmosphere:
Very loud and the decor was kinda old and most of the customers were all boomers. I wouldn't call this a fancy place for young, trendy people. We were surprised as we've observed that we were the only young people dining here and we felt a little out of place.
Overall, I would say that I am never coming back here. There are other places that have better food, better service, and better vibes. I would not recommend this place.
Amazing service - we had a lovely anniversary dinner. Amazing international menu with variety of choices for ever taste. Only thing bad is how many tables there are in such a small space. You have to shout across the table to be heard. Still one of the best fine dining options in the city. Felt like I was back in Paris! The Hokkaido scallop crudo is top notch!
Long time patron so it hurts to write about another local restaurant going down.... We went the other night, as we do 2-3 times a year, for a special occasion - birthday - dinner. BUT, this time, we could hear the noise from inside a house and 1/2 away! Yes, looks like theyve started catering more to tourists and and parties vs locals... It was so loud that the table next to us - mr mardi gras JR, another local, kept hitting his hand on the table to try and get some attention and quiet the place down - to no avail. The wait staff were a bit in the weeds until about 2130 when it emptied out a bit - 2.5hours into our stay! Our table of 4 could barely hear ourselves and in between all the other folks taking pictures and moving around, it was obnoxious. We even called the next day to discuss the matter and while the hostess said Patrick would give us a call to discuss, we've not heard back from anyone. Odd also, we made our reservation through OpenTable. Well, when just about an hour had passed since our apps were finished and the table cleared and our entrees had not arrived, we inquired. 7 minutes we were told. Sure enough, 10 minutes later and almost an hour after the apps, the food arrived. BUT, heres the weird part, the next day when we went to leave a review on OpenTable, we saw the resturant had marked us as a no show which cancelled our spot on OpenTable - which then made us not get an option to respond to OT for a Review - a First!! The reservation was cancelled at just about the same time we inquired as to when our food was coming out. Shady of the restaurant to mark us that way as to not get a review - so were leaving it here. The food was good - but - the apps, at least mine, was not hot. It was cooked properly - the duck had a nice crisp on it, so i know it was done right, just not hot. Being a special dinner i didnt say anything as to spoil the occasion. The table was cleared and we drank our drinks. Then, tick tock, tick tock, we sat chatting all with empty glasses. we talked and talked and finally i had to flag someone down and got a refill. But, i embarrassingly forgot to check my table mates, they all needed drinks too. Flagged the waiter and all good again - except no dinner. When the dinner finally arrived, my steak was cold. My wifes fish was hot though. So the kitchen timing or the wait staff timing was off!! Finally, time for dessert. It was no so late that i wanst in the mood and my behind hurt for sitting for so long - but it was my birthday. So i ordered a coffee and banana split. Coffee came, now its 9pm, and it was lukewarm - ugh! then the desserts came - now get this - my banana split plate was hot?!?! I give up here - what gives. One of the staff was nice and had offered to take my steak back so chef could warm it - but honestly - wed waited so long for it, and i did not want my table mates to not eat while my plate was warmed and i didnt jknow how long that would take, i passed.
No apologies no nothing for such a rotten experience. They knew it too, im sure. And did NOTHING. Which makes it all the worse.
Next time well be at Brigtsen's! Sorry, we loved this place. Guess the tourists will be happy - they wont know the difference and itll be a one off experience all the time....
My husband and I travled to New Orleans for our 10 year anniversary. We found Gautreau's online from the New Orleans travel guide. We ate here on our first night in town. Arriving to the restaurant we weren't sure we were in the right place because there is no signage. We were seating within 10 mins of arriving, right at our reservation time.
The waitstaff was very friendly except for one older lady that didn't speak or smile. But she did keep my water glass filled.
My husband ordered the snapper and I had the lamb ribs. Everything was delicious. As we were waiting on dessert, the owner came over to greet us and sat down with us. We had a lovely conversation with him and he recommended the chocolate dessert.
We had the chocolate cake which was very decadent and the apple tart which was amazing as well. As we were preparing to pay the server told us our desserts were covered by the owner.
I really enjoy my experience here. Very small and intimate setting. Perfect for an anniversary meal!
